Lawrence Ssentongo

A combined 20-year financial services experience spanning banks, microfinance Institutions in sub-Saharan Africa with a focus on business development, advisory, credit, capacity building, product development and risk management. Before joining The Innovation Village Kampala Uganda as the Chief Operations Officer, he worked as a Team Leader for Environmental Alert, a Ugandan NGO which exists to advocate for an enabling environment, sustainable natural resources management and food security for targeted communities through empowerment and policy engagement.

Previously worked with Energy 4 Impact (E4I) as a Senior Programme Manager,  East Africa where he gained in-depth expertise in the Renewable Energy sector (SDG 7 & 13) and MSME development to enhance access to clean energy for rural economies, clean cooking / solar solutions and provision of entrepreneurship and advisory services to off-grid businesses.

Prior to joining E4I, Lawrence worked with Frankfurt School of Finance and Management as a Project Manager where he provided advisory services supporting banks, MFIs, Entrepreneurs in areas of BDS, credit risk, credit policy, SME product development, corporate governance, strategy development and market assessment for growth and expansion in sub-Saharan Africa.

He has worked in the Ugandan microfinance and banking sector at different management and operational levels as a credit officer, branch manager, business development manager, credit risk manager, Head of Corporate Credit / SME Banking across commercial banking and regulated MFIs.

He is a Member Board of Directors for Shared Action Africa (Non-profit organization that supports women & girls to attain to attain sustainable livelihood, lead healthy lives & be agents of climate justice in rural and refugee areas in Uganda (https://sharedact.org/our-leadership/) , Member Board of Directors for UWEZO microfinance Uganda (https://www.uwezomicrofinance.com/)  and Member Board of Director: Capital Solutions Uganda _ Social Investment Fund Advisory Board ( https://capitalsolutionsug.com/)

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences (Makerere University_ Kampala Uganda), Master of Arts Degree in Development Studies (Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi _Uganda) and a certified Expert in Islamic Microfinance (Frankfurt School of Finance & Management _Germany)
